IP and ASN data
Country, city, ISP, and ASN details — on the IP lookup, the ASN lookup, the "What is my IP" page, and the enrichment shown next to DNS answers — come from a copy of the free IP2Location database held on our own server.
This site or product includes IP2Location LITE data available from https://lite.ip2location.com.
Because it is a local copy refreshed periodically, it is a snapshot rather than a live feed. Address blocks get reassigned, ISPs merge, and geolocation is an estimate at the best of times — city-level results in particular are often approximate, and VPN or mobile carrier addresses frequently resolve somewhere other than where the user actually is.
DNS lookups
DNS results are not stored or cached by us. Every lookup runs live: our server
issues dig queries to public resolvers and to the authoritative
nameservers for the domain, and streams back whatever they answer at that moment.
That means results reflect what those servers returned to our server, from its network location, at that second. Records that were recently changed may still be propagating, resolvers cache answers for the length of the record's TTL, and some providers return different answers depending on where the query comes from. A result that differs from what you see locally is not necessarily wrong — the two answers can both be accurate for their own vantage point.
SSL certificate checks
The SSL checker opens a live TLS connection from our server to the host and port you enter, and reports the certificate that host presented. Nothing is cached, and a server that serves different certificates to different clients (or that was reconfigured a moment ago) can report differently elsewhere.
Accuracy and responsibility
All results on this site, and the same data served through the Public API, are provided as is, with no guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or timeliness. They come from third-party databases and from remote servers we do not control, and we cannot verify what those sources report.
GetDNS is a diagnostic aid. Please do not treat it as the sole basis for a decision that matters — verify anything important against the authoritative source, such as your registrar, DNS provider, or certificate authority. We accept no responsibility for any loss or consequence arising from reliance on these results.
